Beat Boredom With Activity Idea BoxKeep Kids Entertained with Container Filled With Things to DoDon't let boredom ruin the day. Follow these steps to create an activity idea box full of suggestions to keep kids entertained.
Parents looking for fun activities to keep children entertained can work with their children to create an Activity Idea Box. This handy box is the perfect item to grab when a child utters the dreaded words, "I'm bored." Any time a child is looking for something to do, he or she can simply pull an idea out of the box to discover suggestions for things to do. Materials for the Activity Idea BoxFor starters, find an old shoe box or coffee container with lid. A plastic container with lid will work as well. Gather some scrap pieces of paper and markers. Parents and children can work together to create the box. Let the kids decorate the box by using stickers, pictures, paper, markers or other craft supplies on hand. Set the box aside once the decorating is complete. Now it is time to make the contents for the boredom buster box. Use scrap pieces of paper, plain cardstock or recycle paper printed on one side by using the blank side to write ideas upon. Cut the scrap pieces into thin strips approximately 1-inch high by 2-inches wide so there is enough space to write on. Cut enough slips of paper to fill the activity idea box. Each child should have a marker and slips to write their activity ideas down. Things to Do to Beat BoredomParents and children can work together to come up with ideas to place in the box. Have children write down one activity they would like to do on a single slip of paper and have them fold the paper slip in half before placing in the box. Continue until all the paper slips are filled with ideas. Be creative with the ideas for activities placed in the box. Consider including craft ideas such as painting a picture, drawing a still life, making beads out of paper, making a collage or creating a scrapbook. Include some academic focused activities too. Reading, writing and completing science projects can be fun, television-free activities to do together. Other activity ideas can focus on having fun and getting exercised. Include outdoor activities like taking a walk, going on a hike, riding bikes, playing basketball, going bowling, play kickball or jump rope. Resources for Finding Activities for KidsParents and children can find additional ideas to fill the activity box with by visiting the local library. There are numerous books filled with things to do to keep kids from getting bored. If a computer is available, check web sites such as Family Fun or Activities For Kids to find more things to do to fight boredom.
