It's the details that make a tea party memorable and fun. Try incorporating some of these ideas to make your child's next tea party a success.

A fancy, perfectly hosted tea party is many a little girls’ dream. Pinkies out, delicate looking foods, and polite conversation is all part of the magic. Spending a few minutes on finishing touches can turn a common tea time into a memory that will be fondly locked away indefinitely.

A tea party is truly a feast for the senses. From the smell of the treats, to the feel of the tablecloth, it’s a great time for a party! Here are some simple tips for tinkering with the details:

Music, Stories, and Poems

How about some music in the background? Soft and not overpowering, music makes merry. Themed children’s songs can be used, as can a child’s favorite artist, or even classical compositions. The kind of mood desired will determine the music chosen.

Other fun additions to any tea party are simple poems and stories. A short picture book can be read by the hostess to entertain her guests. Alternately, small poems can be printed on tiny scrolls and placed as part of the centerpiece and read by each of the guests. They can double as keepsakes if embellished.

Sweet Smelling Ideas

Fresh baked mini-goodies can fill the home and the heart with sweetness. Other ways to delight the sense of smell would be fresh cute flowers, small dabs of a lightly scented floral bath splash for the guests to freshen up with, and choosing a tea with a pronounced bouquet. A guessing game can be part of the party. The guests could smell different varieties of tea and try to name them.

Delicious Tea Party Treats

Most tea parties consist of predominantly sweet foods, but to excite little taste buds, use a variety of treats. Tiny cakes and mini muffins are tasty , but so are savory goodies, like cheddar biscuits and cucumber cream cheese sandwiches. Children love pop-able foods, so a plate consisting of round tidbits would be fun. Try peanut butter balls, cream cheese herbed balls, and powdered truffles. Just choose recipes that suit your theme.

Feel the Mood

Silky dresses are just part of the joy of a tea party celebration. Lacy placemats, well cushioned chairs, and soft linen napkins help enrich the tactile element of a tea party. Some guests would love shawls or boas to wear, while others may enjoy dress up high heels.

Feast for the Eyes

Surely, the beauty of a tea party is the best part. Most of the tea party ideas above naturally add to the visual beauty. Lovely place cards with the host’s favorite colors and designs, a fresh picked bouquet of bright flowers, shimmery ribbons hanging over head, and edible flowers floating in a glass dish of water are all extra touches that make a tea party breathtaking for the guests.

Anyone can throw a quick, plastic tea party together, but adding a few special details can make it memorable. Appealing to all of the senses is one of the best ways to create a long term memory. If heartfelt efforts are made, happiness is certainly the end result.
