From exploring dinosaurs to rock climbing to learning the trapeze, the options for summer camps for your kids have become endless.

There are so many great opportunities for your children to learn new activities this summer at camp. From sports to the arts to adventure, here are just some ideas you may want to consider for your kids.

Museum Summer Camps

A great place to look for summer camps would be your local museums, such as art, history, science and aviation. Many offer week long camps with interesting and educational themes that take place right at the museum. For example, the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville offers week long summer camps with themes such as Dinomania, Canyon Cruise (exploring the Grand Canyon), and Volcanoes and Earthquakes.

Sports Summer Camps

There is usually every type of sports camp available from soccer to hockey, but, depending on your child’s age, you may want to consider less common sports such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, or scuba diving. Camp Hidden Meadows in Bartow, West Virginia, for example, offers a week long rock climbing camp for kids ages 12 to 16. Check out your local boat club, college or university to see what sports camps they are offering.

Music, Drama and the Arts Summer Camps

A great way to enrich your kids this summer is through the arts such as music and drama. These types of camps are usually held by local music schools or conservatories, but also try your local theater to see what they are offering. The Rocky Mountain Theater for Kids in Denver offers summer camps whereby your kids will work on productions including the Wizard of Oz, Horton Hears a Who and The Little Mermaid.

Circus Summer Camps

An increasing popular camp is one that revolves around circus activities where kids learn how to juggle, do trapeze and unicycle, usually followed by putting on a show at the end. To find these types of camps, again, check your local theater or Google “Circus Camp” for your city.

Farm Summer Camps

A great experience for children of any age is farm camp. Any large commercial farm or agricultural museum in your area probably offers one. At Deer Ridge Farm in Guilford, Vermont, campers spend the week experiencing all aspects of farm life, from seeding & protecting plants to feeding and fencing animals and harvesting eggs.

Computer Summer Camps

If your child is not into sports or the arts, a technical camp, such as computer camp, may be a good choice. The University of Michigan offers a summer camp that will teach kids 12 to 17 subjects such as C++ / C# Programming, Web Site Development, Flash Animation, Graphics, 3D Modeling and Rendering, and Virtual Reality. Again, your local colleges and universities are the best place to find these types of camps.

The earliest your child can attend a summer camp is three years old and these are typically just half day camps until your child is six. Private schools, preschools and churches are your best bet to finding a half day camp for your toddler.

As you can see from the choices above there is something for every child no matter their interests are. Summer camps do fill up quickly so you should start thinking about registering your children for summer camps as early as April.
