Planning the same old party for your child can get boring for him or her, as well as for your whole family. Check out a few ways you can spice up your kid's birthday.

If you want to make your child's birthday celebration memorable, you have many options. Here are some party tips that will be enjoyed your child, as well as family and friends.

Create Fun Themes

Whether it's the colour yellow or her favourite movie or animal, give the party a fun theme, advises the Suite101 article "Birthday Party Pizzazz" by Belinda Mooney. On the invitations, instruct parents to have children come in a costume. Within your home or backyard, go wild and decorate with anything and everything that has to do with the theme. Some themes to consider for your son and daughter include:

  • Dinosaurs
  • Dance
  • Soccer or any other sport
  • Circus
  • Zoo
  • Pirates
  • Popstars
  • Bubbles

Get Active in the Celebration

Visit your local recreation centre, sports facility or dance studio and inquire about birthday party packages. For instance, some dance studios offer private hip-hop classes for a group of children. Depending on the facility, the studio may even provide a party room which you can use for lunch and birthday cake. Many gymnastics facilities offer birthday parties around their gyms, which include swinging on the rings and bars, jumping on the trampolines and performing front rolls on the floor.

Bring the Spa to Your Home

According to the Kaboose article "Spa Party Ideas", "Girls aged nine and up just love a kids' spa party." That being said, get 10 of your daughter's friends together for a spa in your own home. And there's no need to spend too much money either. Visit the dollar store for nail polish, files, creams and more. Then throughout the party, do simple manicures or pedicures on each girl. Think there will be too many girls for you to handle? Ask other moms to help out – in the end, they just might have as much fun!

Birthdays at the Store

Depending on your local grocery store, you might be able to have your birthday party there. Many grocery stores have party rooms where you not only have the children eat, they'll also be provided cooking classes. These cooking classes consist of making fun treats, such as cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Also, check out a pet store near you for any birthday party deals. Some pet stores also have party rooms where they'll bring in kittens, puppies, lizards and hamsters for the kids to pet.

Overall, there's no need to get into a rut when you're planning your child's party. Get creative and think outside the box. Think about theme parties, visit your recreation centres, consider a fun party in your home (such as the "spa") and even talk to your grocery or pet store for details.
