This article gives directions for planting a small windowsill garden from fruit seeds.
You will need:
- Seeds saved from oranges, lemons, apples, pumpkins, avocados, or grapefruit
- Clean and dry yogurt cups (paper cups, egg cartons, and plastic cups can be used but they do not stand up or hold up as well with soil and water.)
- Potting soil
What you do:
- Allow the seeds to dry out for a few days by laying them out on a paper towel.
- Fill your containers 3/4 full of potting soil.
- Plant seeds near the top.
- Set in a sunny windowsill.
- Water every day and watch your little trees grow.

Very well put together. Really easy to follow without that crap all the
other websites do. This just tells you step-by-step and is very helpful.

What I did was wash them, dry them and then put them in wet paper towels.
I then put this in a covered plastic container which was placed on top of
my hot water heater. The seeds sprouted in there and when they were a few
inches tall I put them in well-watered soil in a pot. Southern exposure
window works fine and then keep transplanting it when you see the roots
come out; into a larger container. You will eventually get to the size of
a whiskey barrel. Then in cold weather you can bring it inside etc....
Also put in a slow-release fertilizer and keep it watered.

I am just starting to research gardening, so please bear with me, if you
plant a fruit tree with this method, do you actually get fruits eventually
or is it just a nice plant to look at? Also, if you plant outside do you
have to worry about dogs, cats and mice eating your stuff? how do you keep
them away?
