Kids Make Clay and Fashion Christmas Ornaments

Kids can make these clay ornaments and paint them to hang on the tree or wall.

To make clay ornaments you will need cookie cutters, paper clips, a cutting mat, rolling pin, toothpicks and enamel paint. Also you will need a batch of drying clay made from this simple recipe.

Cool the clay in a covered pan until it is cooled enough to knead. Knead to a soft consistency and roll the piece of clay out until it is about 1/4 inch thick.

Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes of nativity figures, tree balls, Santas, angels, sheep, trees, stars, and other Christmas shapes.

Use the toothpick to make holes in the shape big enough for a piece of ribbon or yard to be threaded through the hole after the piece dries. Or press a paper clip carefully into the back top of the ornament and press gently. Allow the shape to dry on a cookie cooling rack

Allow the shapes to dry thoroughly and then paint them . (Another option if you cannot paint the figures is to cut pictures off greeting cards to glue onto them. Coat with puzzle coat or layers of glue and allow to dry.)

Finish the ornaments by threading yarn or ribbons about 10inches long through the holes or paper clips.

You can make necklaces with the smaller ornaments by putting a ribbon long enough to go over your head on the paper clip hooks. These make nice gifts.
