This is a recipe for sculpting clay which hardens when it dries. It is great for making ornaments.

Here is the recipe for making ornament clay. It is good for many kid's projects that are going to be painted and kept.

Use a cooking pan at least one quart size. Combine 2 cups of baking soda and 1 cup of cornstarch and exactly 1 1/4 cups of water in the saucepan. Place on medium heat and begin to stir. Keep mixing and stirring until the mixture is as soft as mashed potatoes (about 5 minutes)

Take the pan off and cover it with a lid and set it in the refrigerator or a cold plavce for 30 minutes to an hour so it gets about likewarm and you can handle it. Knead the clay by hand and then roll it out to sesired thickness.

Keep any leftover clay in a tightly closed container.

Use this recipe to make ornaments for your Christmas tree, fun holiday jewlery or mantlepiece angels.

2 cups of baking soda?? Did you mean flour

Elece Hollis :
Dear Reader, Soda is correct--not flour. There are some variations and some do call for flour. Some call for alum and salt. Try this and let me know how well it works for you.

some craft projects may crack if it is too thick or too thin, or moved to much. I still have ornaments my children made 15 years ago...they still get put on the tree every year...

Hi
please tell me can i use this to make hand prints of my baby and do i have to bake it in the oven?

Elece Hollis :
Reader, I would use plaster of Paris to make baby's handprints. It would not need to be baked. It can be purchased in craft stores orlook at suoercenter stores like Wal-Mart. You mix a small amount in water using the directions on the package. It is cold so you can have the child print his hand in it. It sets quickly and lasts well.

this stuff works sooooooooooooooooo well. Follow the directions. But when you take out the stuff, cook it but not to much, just to soften it up
