A fun project for moms and daughters is to decorate a basic lamp shade with fall leaves and an acorn fringe.
Try this great fall activity. After your leaves are collected and pressed using these directions, chose a small basic lamp shade and you will also need a roll of beading string, a couple of strong sharp needles, tacky craft glue, and a bottle of decoupage coat. Assemble all the materials on a newspaper covered tabletop. First make your acorn fringe. Poke a hole in the acorns with the needle and run beading cord through the acorn and make it dangle from the lower edge of the shade. Add more until you have a fringe of acorns all around the lamp shade, each dangling free of the next. Now try arranging your leaves to the shade sides. When you have found a pleasing arrangement, glue the leaves in place with tacky glue. When the glue is throughly dry, consider adding seaquins, glitter or pueces of potpouri for color accent. Allow to dry then cover a coat of decoupage coat. After drying add a second and then when dry a third coat. This is a great project for moms and girls to do together. It allows plenty of time for talking with breaks while glue and varnish dries to stop for a cup of tea and some cookies. The lamp shade could be a gift for a nature loving type, or a new decorative piece for a bedroom or den. Have fun together. Want to do another mother/daughter project?
