Some simple instructions for planning and performing a story play.
Know a good story? Then you can act it out and put on your own play.
First, think of a simple story you have read lately. It could be one from a book or a family story that you have heard many times. Think of a nice short story. Got one?
Here are a few suggestions: The Boy who cried Wolf, Jack and the Bean stalk, The Nativity,The Pokey Little Puppy, Peter Rabbit, Bible stories, The three Pigs, The Three bears, Red Riding Hood,
Now set up a stage at the end of the room and chairs for your audience at the other. Use simple everyday household items for props. Use your imagination. A chair could be a bus. A throw rug could be your lake. See?
Now assign parts and find some clothes for costumes to fit the characters. Brown shawls for the three bears maybe and a basket for Goldilocks. A gray blanket for the big bad wolf to wrap up in and Mom's red sweater and a red ball cap for Little Red Riding Hood.
Now work out the scripts. Who says what? Practice and practice. Then call in Mom and Dad, the babysitter, or Granny , and the kids next door for your audience.
Announce the play and begin. Speak up nice and loud and don't forget to come back in and bow at the end.
