Read these simple ideas for crafting a diorama--a model of a town, village, or city. This article includes no actual outlines or instructions, but rather inspiration.

Hello, welcome to kids' activities.

Here is a fun project that can be used successively to inspire an art project, a history lesson, or a cultural experience. My daughter loved building an Indian pueblo from a kit and went on with that inspiration to build other towns--one of Legos--with stores, airport, banks, and eateries.

She was able, with no kit or adult intervention, to craft a small jungle village complete with huts, gardens, wells, cooking fires, and pelts hung to dry. Another project was cut and glued from poster board. These kept her occupied for hours and led to the creation of stories for her little people to act out.

Kids don't need kits once they have the inspiration and see how models are constructed. So have your child build a miniature town--a diorama town and let his imagination soar!
