Kids who love rocks can learn how to identify and store rocks and fossils and get ideas about sharing that collection.

Hello Readers,

Summer is in its last phase. Are there rocks and fossils piled on top of your washing machine or along your child's windowsill? If so, capitalize on your child's interest in the earth's crust by helping him learn to indentify these specimens, store, and show them.

A child always learns more by sharing what he is studying, so in this article, Rock and Fossil Collections, are some great ideas for presenting in a public place or displaying a collection. Also included are suggestions for a writing and photography project with summer's natural treasures.

The article also lists tools a rock hound will need to help with obtaining and identifying rocks. The three types of rock--sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rock are listed and explained in very simple terms.

The student is encouraged to learn to use field guides which are a key to learning about nature in any subject area.

Take this project back-to-school with show and tell sessions or as a science unit study.

Have fun!
