Zip! Zing! Zoom! Hummers are great entertainment. Your children will enjoy putting up a feeder this spring and can enjoy hummingbirds all summer and early autumn. Kids can learn the basics of hummer feeding in my new article.
Measuring and boiling the sugar/water syrup is good chemistry and cooking training. Learning to clean and refill feeders, is character training in responsibility. Whether he uses an expensive store bought model or one he has designed and manufactured himself, your child will love feeding and watching these wonderful little acrobats compete for supper.
If the feeder is hung close to a window where the child can stand to observe the hummers, he will be intrigued and soon be learning and gaining a lifetime appreciation of our feathered friends.
This article, Feeding Hummingbirds, tells how to buy or make a feeder, how to mix feeding formula, how to clean and refill feeders and what problems he may expect to encounter along the way.
