Leftover Pumpkin Ideas

What will we do with all those leftover pumpkins? Shouldn't we be able to use them for some other purpose before their final demise on the compost heap? Here are a few ideas for using them in the classroom or for fun home experiments and projects.

First, use whole pumpkins for floating experiments. How about math? Estimate, then verify the weight of pumpkins. Estimate, then count the number of seeds.

Try this rotting experiment to teach about the conditions for bacteria growth. Then try dehydrating, seed roasting, or baking. Those pesky leftover pumpkins can be used for Thanksgiving decorations too. Don't throw them out.
