Poetry Writing How-to

Happy June, readers!

I hope you are starting summer off right with some educational activities to keep those brains learning and growing through school vacation. This week I have a new article about the art and craft of poetry writing for young writers. I have included a list of ways to get poem ideas, like "people watching," "photo browsing," "nature walks" and listening to mood-filled music.

Further, I have listed some basic styles of poetry writing--haiku, free verse, narrative, lyric poems, and sonnets. Children can study this article for the basic how-to, but the path his poetry will take is definitely up to him.

Reading poetry by some suggested poets is a good way to warm up to this writing acivity.
