There is educational value in birdwatching and excitement in joining the Great Backyard Bird Count. Encourage your children to take part.

Break out the binoculars and field guides. Let talk birds! This is a wonderful time of year to watch the birds. Get in on the Great Backyard Bird Count with these directions. Birdwatching is a natural interest for many children and the dividends produced from encouragement of this interest can be terrific!

This wide interest can be narrowed to encourage not only the study of birds themselves, but geography, weather, art, handwriting, poetry, math, research skills, and science.

Birds are everywhere. Whether you are living in the country, by the sea, the suburbs, or in the city, there are plenty of birds to observe, study and count. The Great Backyard Bird Count is a great way to start.
